Please note: Our annual Hub2Pub campaign cycle ride has switched from Saturday to SUNDAY JULY 14. We start from Sandgate at 3pm on Sunday and cycle via the seafront and canal-side to Botolphs Bridge Inn, West Hythe.

Sorry about the short notice, but there are too many clashes with the original Saturday date – the Folkestone Artworks Ride from Sandgate to Folkestone Harbour at 11am that day, not to mention Folkestone’s Charivari Day starting at 2pm.

The HUB2PUB Schedule:

3pm.  Ride start: Sandgate Seafront, immediately behind The Hub cycle shop.  LOAF, the excellent café attached to The Hub, is open for lunch or pre-ride refreshments.  LOAF will also make up picnic packs to enjoy at the end of the ride.  Order a pack by calling LOAF on 01303 211235.

3pm to 4.30pm.  The ride will proceed along the seafront to Hythe, then right at St Leonard’s Road to Hythe Green, thence by National Cycle Route No 2 along the canal-side to Aldergate Bridge, then left and left again on to Lower Wall Road to the destination: Botolph Bridge Inn.  The less energetic can leave the canal-side at West Hythe and take a shortcut to the pub south along West Hythe Road.

Please note, it’s drinks only at the pub, so if you are hungry, carry a picnic pack from LOAF.  But the restaurant at Botolphs Bridge Inn opens at 6pm for dinner if you want to make an evening of it.

For more details call David Taylor on 01303 226234 or 07880 702969 or email

See you there on Sunday!

ARTWORKS CYCLE RIDE: 13 July 2013 11:00 am

Free Guided Tour. Weather permitting, it’s a leisurely ride from The Hub Cycle Shop in Sandgate to Folkestone Harbour viewing the Folkestone Artworks en-route and stopping to learn more. Run by Folkestone Artworks in partnership with Cycle Shepway, it’s free – no need to book, just turn up with your bike!

Last time it was a little misty (see the picture). This time we’ll be basking in July’s promised heatwave – we hope! For more information contact Jo Cowdrey, Folkestone Artworks Curator, on 01303 842188 or email or visit

Campaign Ride 2012

Despite a punishing south-westerly headwind gusting from the Channel and the clash with Folkestone’s Charivari, fifty riders braved the Campaign Ride on June 16. Well done, those stoic enthusiasts!

The route was from Sandgate to Aldergate Bridge on the Military Canal and return to Hythe for a barbecue at The Bell Inn. No mishaps, safe marshaling and good humour all round. Breezy, yes, but the sun shone and exotic beasts gave a touch of safari as we pedaled by Port Lympne Animal Park.

The ride was started by Cllr Hugh Barker, Shepway District Council’s cabinet member for sport and a loyal supporter of Cycle Shepway. Shane Record, our deputy chairman, led the ride. Committee member Mark Biddis who sells excellent locally-sourced ice cream from his bicycle, provided en route refreshment

The ride helped highlight our campaign to improve the parlous cycling provision of Shepway and our petition for a high-grade 20-mile shoreline cycleway from Folkestone to Dungeness.
